AIRWAY BILL   Air Consignment Note which is prepared in non-negotiable form by and between the consignor and the air carrier.

ALL IN   Inclusive of all charges. An agreement covering any and all costs from origin to destination.

 
BALLOON FREIGHT   Light and bulky cargo.

BILL OF LOADING   Bill of Lading. A principal and valuable document having multi-purpose usage in the transportation of goods, raw materials and commodities. Bill of Lading establishes the freight, the properties of the goods carried, the route and the parties having the right of property on the goods.

BONDED WAREHOUSE   Bonded Depot. A warehouse authorized by Customs authorities for storage of goods until customs clearance transactions are completed.

BROKER   A person who arranges the goods for transportation and receives a commission from transportation of the goods.

CARGO TONNAGE   Freight Tonnage. The weight of the goods subject to the tariff.

CARNET   A customs document permitting the passage of the goods accross international borders.

CFR   Abbreviation for “Cost and Freight”. Delivery where the freight and insurance are not paid until the port of destination.

CIF   Abbreviation for “Cost, Insurance and Freight”. In this type of sale, the seller assumes the same obligations as specified in the term CFR, but it is obliged to procure marine insurance against the loss of or damage to the goods during transportation. The seller executes an insurance contract and pays the premiums thereof. CIF requires execution of export clearance transactions by the seller.

CIP   Abbreviation for “Carriage and Insurance Paid To”. Delivery where the freight and insurance until the port of destination are paid.

CLEAN BILL OF LADING   A receipt for goods issued by a carrier with an indication that the goods were received in apparent good order and condition without any damage or shortage. Unless otherwise specified, the Bill of Lading is assumed to be “cleaned”.

CLEARANCE   1. Customs Clearance. 2. Maximum permitted size for passing of loaded vehicles through over or below such locations as bridges, tunnels and the like.

COLLECTION   Check/draft issued by the seller accompanied by other carriage documents and containing instructions regarding type of payment.

COMMERCIAL INVOICE   A commercial document.representing a complete record of the transaction between exporter and importer and serves as basis for all other documents arranged regarding the goods which are carried.

CONSIGNEE   A person or company who is authorized to take delivery of the goods carried.

CONSIGNMENT   1. A stock of merchandise shipped to a place designated by intermediary with the title to the goods belonging to the producer.
2. Loading of the goods for shipment to the consignee.

CONSIGNOR   A person designated as the shipper on the Bill of Lading.

CONSOLIDATION   Combination of the merchandise coming from different sources in one shipment.

CPT   Abbreviation for “Carriage Paid To”.

DAF   Abbreviation for “Delivered at Frontier”. Delivery at the frontier by indicating the place of destination. Delivery at the frontier with export customs clearance transactions completed at the place designated, but it means that the obligations of the seller have ceased after the goods are made available for delivery at a location or point stated before the customs frontier of the neighbouring country.

DDC   Abbreviation for “Destination Delivery Charge”. Costs of delivery at the place of arrival. These are the costs applied for lots of cargo tariff depending on the container size. These costs are added as auxiliary cost to the marine freight. Gate fee is included for unloading from the ship by way of crane, transportations with heavy trucks within the terminal and terminal operations.

DDP   Abbreviation for “Delivered Duty Paid”. Delivery with place of destination named and customs duties paid in the importing country. It means that the seller’s obligation to deliver the goods shall have been fulfilled after the goods are made available for delivery at the place of destination designated in the importing country. The seller assumes any and all risks and costs in addition to the taxes and other accruals including customs duties at the moment of delivery with customs transactions of the goods completed. While the term EXW represents minimum responsibility for the seller, the term DDP represents maximum responsibility.

DDU   Abbreviation for “Delivered Duty Unpaid”. Delivery with customs duties unpaid. It means that the seller’s obligation to deliver the goods shall have been fulfilled after the goods are made available for delivery at the place of destination designated in the importing country. The seller has to bear all the costs involved in bringing the goods thereto (except the customs duties, taxes and other payable importation fees). The buyer assumes any additional costs which may arise and the risks which may occur due to insufficient customs exit transactions.

DES   Abbreviation for “Delivered Ex Ship”. Delivery on Board.

DEQ   Abbreviation for “Delivered Ex Quay”. Delivery at the berth with customs taxes paid.

DOCUMENTS AGAINST ACCEPTANCE (D/A)   Instructions given by the seller to a bank indicating that the documents necessary for delivery of the goods should be delivered to the buyer only upon the buyer’s acceptance of the attached draft.

DOCUMENTS AGAINST PAYMENT (D/P)   Instructions given by the buyer to a bank for the delivery of the documents if it has made the payment.

DOOR TO DOOR   Carriage from door to door. Realization of any and all carriage transactions from the moment at which the goods are received from the consignor up to the moment of their delivery to the consignee. It is also known as transportation from house to house.

DRAFT, BANK   Bir satıcının alıcıya genellikle bir banka aracılığıyla gönderdiği çek, poliçe yada senet.

EXW   Abbrevation for “Ex Work”. It means delivery at the workplace.

FCA   Abbreviation for “Free Carrier”. It means delivery to the carrier at the determined place.

FAS   Abbreviation for “Free Alongside Ship”. It means delivery alongside the ship.

FIATA   Abbreviation for “Federestion International des Associations de Trasitaires et Assimiles”. Federation of International Freight Forwarders Association. A Union headquarters of which is located in Zurich and to which each of 93 national transportation organizations, freight forwarders, customs agencies and logistic associations and federations is a member.

FOB   Abbreviation for “Free on Board”. Free of charge on the board. Delivery at the specified port of loading. It means that the seller’s obligations are fulfilled upon delivery of the goods on the board of the ship at the designated port of loading. As of the said point, the buyer assumes any and all costs and risks against any loss of or damage to the goods. FOB requires that the export clearance transactions should be carried out by the seller.

FREIGHT BILL   An invoice.

FREIGHT FORWARDER   Organizator of transportation works.

GROSS WEIGHT   Total weight of the goods, pallets, containers, packages and wagons.

GROUPAGE   Consolidation. Service of combination by transferring the partial loads included in small packagings into larger carriage containers.

IATA   Abbreviation for “International Air Transport Organization”. An organization governing the definitions and powers related to Passenger and Cargo Transportation in the International Air Transportation.

IMPORT   To receive or purchase goods from a foreign country. It means the receipt of a product manufactured in a foreign country for the purpose of selling the same within the customs boundaries of the importing country.

IMPORT LICENCE   A document or permit required and issued by some national governments for importation of the goods.

INSURANCE   An assurance.

INTERCHANGE   Place/Station of Transhipment. The transhipment of the load from one carrier to another one between the lines.

INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION   The use of more than one transport mode for delivery of the goods. Used to denote movements of trailers-containers by means of railway plus at least one other transport mode.

MANIFEST   A document indicating the list of the details issued by a carrier or its agent.

NET WEIGHT   Specific weight of the goods prior to the packaging.

PACKING LIST   Itemized list of commodities with marks/numbers but no cost values indicated.

PARTIAL SHIPMENTS   Loading in parts.

POINT OF ORIGIN   The place at which the goods are received from the shipper.

PREPAID (Ppd.)   The payments made in advance by the shipper before the Bill of Lading is released by the carrier.

SURCHARGE   An extra or additional payments above the tariff.

TARIFF   Price quotations and rules applied by transportation companies.

TERMS OF SALE   Cargo sales terms describing the responsibilities of the buyer and the seller as finally determined in the year 2000 by the International Chamber of Commerce. These terms are as follows: EXW, FCA, FAS, CFR, CIF, CPkt, CIP, DAF, DES, DEA, DDU and DDF.

TIR   Abbreviation for “Transport International par la Route”. International Highways Transportation Agreement. International Highways Transportation Agreement executed by and between the American and the European governments. This document ensures the passage of the sealed containers accross national borders by showing the TIR carnets.

UNLOADING   Removal of the goods from a vessel.

WAREHOUSING   The storing of goods.

WAYBILL (WB)   A document prepared by a transportation line in the marine shipment showing the point of origin, place of destination, route, consignor, consignee, description of vessels and amount charged for the transportation service. This document is hand delivered or forwarded by way of post service to the agent.
